ST. LOUIS SCOOTER CLUB: FAQ

Q: What is the St. Louis Scooter Club (SLSC) ?

A: The St. Louis Scooter Club (SLSC) is a not-for-profit club run by volunteers on behalf of its members; all monies raised goes right back into the Club to pay the Club's expenses - such as web hosting, swag, postage and printing costs.

SLSC was founded in the early summer of 2007. With a thriving local community of scooterists, the club initially boasted a dozen members. Today its membership has grown to represent a broad spectrum of St. Louis' scootering riders.

Q: What makes a St. Louis Scooter Club Member?

A. To best answer this question read this:
  • Some of us are in our 20's, some in their 40's and others have their AARP card.
  • We work in arts, retail IT, consulting, health care, education and more.
  • Some wrench bikes themselves, others leave it to the professionals.
  • We're married and single, straight and gay, live in the city and the metro St. Louis area.
  • We respect each other.
  • We love scooters!! The people, the culture, the rides and we don't differentiate between vintage or modern.
  • We enjoy all scooters without regard to manufacturer.
  • We help each other when needed. No one is EVER left behind!
  • We enjoy all types of rides be it a country or a city ride.
  • We always ride safe with an emphasis on personal responsibility! We HIGHLY encourage all club members to take the MSF course.

Q: I hear you are nothing but old farts - its that true?

A: SLSC is made up of lots of scooter riders. Some are mature and other are young; basically the club's average age is around 30-something. Do not let some gray hairs fool you, some of our riders were gray at 18 years old. We are always looking for riders of all ages to keep our club diverse so don't be shy.

Q. Do I have to be a scooter nut or an experienced rider to participate in your club activities?

A. Nope. The club is primarily for anyone who loves anything with two-wheels - period. You can be a veteran or a newbie. You don't even have to own a scooter to join, if you are looking to purchase a scooter, we are a perfect place to get a ton of advice for FREE!

Q. My scooter only has a 49cc engine and its rather vintage - is that OK?

A. SLSC doesn't differentiate between vintage or modern. A scooter is a scooter and we refuse to participate in the segregation of scooters by year, make, style or engine size. Some of our rides are planned with 49cc engines in mind and some of our rides may require a 200cc scooter, but that will be clearly stated on the announcement.

Q. What is the ratio of women-to-men in the group?

A. Club events attract a variety gender. The break down is fairly even men to women. If you are looking for a blind date or spouse we recommend www.plentyoffish.com.

Q. How do I join SLSC?

A. There are no secret handshakes or special applications. Just come out to one of our weekly meetings or participate in one of our club rides. Ask to become a member and you will be mailed (or emailed) an application to the SLSC. Suggested donation is $25 annually but you can donate more or less. (You can also sponsor specific costs of the club.) Donations pay for our website, newsletter, holiday events, parade fees and much more. SLSC members will receive discounts to a variety of St. Louis scooter and accessory stores when they show their membership card.

Q. How can I help SLSC?

A. We would love to see the SLSC membership grow throughout the St. Louis region. We are even planning an annual St. Louis Scooter Club scooter rally for 2008! You might consider taking on a SLSC leadership role or you can help by just promoting this website. We are especially looking for more 49cc riders so spread the word.
